200 Years Anniversary:
Classic Cars are celebrating our alpine transit road!
Throughout the summer of 2023 we are celebrating the colourful history of one of the oldest transit roads through the Alps in Switzerland.
With a Classic Car event named “Celebration Road” on the 8th of July 2023, we dived into the road’s past and brought back all the vehicles that have driven on this road over the many decades.

Short history of the old Commercial Road
The old “Commercialstrasse” (Commercial Road) was opened back in 1823 and was one of the first driveable north-south connections through the Alps in Europe and formed the main transport axis for goods and people in our region for many decades.
Our Viamala region was connected to the rest of Europe by the Commercial Road from Chur through the Viamala gorge, over the San Bernardino or Spluegen Pass. A large part of the goods and passenger traffic used to be handled via these pass connections and the road thus had a great influence on supply and distribution throughout Europe.
The Classic Car Event ‘Celebration Road’
‘Celebration Road’ is a unique, informal, open and colourful classic car event that places the historic vehicles in a direct context with the history, the artificial structures of an old transit road and also with cultural and culinary experiences. But not only the vehicles: the drivers, families and guests of the participants will also be able to immerse themselves in an exciting and unique world.
The event is open to clubs as well as individual vehicles and offers the opportunity for cross-brand, cross-era and cross-cultural exchange among friends of classic vehicles in a historically rich environment. Families or groups have the opportunity to create individual and unique experiences.
By the way, a visit to “Celebration Road” can also be ideally combined with a holiday – even that has a historical connection: the Commercialstrasse also made an important contribution to the development of tourism in our region!

Will there be another issue of Celebration Road? We don't know yet, and it all depends if you liked it and if you would like to come again for a Classic Car Celebration in the Swiss Alps!
